Afternoon Tea at the Peninsula
Afternoon Tea at the Peninsula Hotel is sublime.
Granted, it's a tourist draw, but don't let that put you off.
The Grand Old Lady is worth a visit.
From the Peninsula's web site:
Nothing is more evocative of the olden days of Hong Kong than Afternoon Tea beneath the neo-classical arches of The Peninsula Lobby. Step through the hotel's main entrance and change gear, as this living example of history takes you back to a more gracious world when there was always time for tea. With The Lobby Strings for musical company, your toughest decision will be when to visit this most elegant rendezvous for a drink or a meal.
When we visited, our fare consisted of finger sandwiches featuring ham, salmon and cucumber; assorted pastries and decadent chocolate confections; raisin scones accompanied by a fluffy, whipped butter and fresh strawberry preserves; and our choice of tea: Earl Grey.
While pleasant, it's not something we do often; the food is rich. Expect to pay a premium for the privilege, and the price in the gym later.
Afternoon Tea is served daily from 14.00 to 19.00; the dress code is casual. You'll need to have your order in 30 minutes before closing time, so don't be late.
Once you've had Afternoon Tea at the Pen, you'll have participated in one of Hong Kong's best traditions.
You won't be disappointed.
