Things To Do In Hong Kong Before You Die

High Tea at the Peninsula

High Tea at the Peninsula Hotel is sublime.

View large image Granted, it's a tourist draw, but don't let that put you off.

The Grand Old Lady is worth a visit.

From the Peninsula's web site:

The classical grandeur of The Peninsula Lobby is the epitome of all that is great about this legendary hotel.

The Lobby is a busy but relaxed all-day drinking and dining venue, and one of Hong Kong's premier meeting places.

The world-renowned afternoon high tea is a Hong Kong "must" where guests are entertained by a live string band.

When we visited, our fare consisted of finger sandwiches featuring ham, salmon and cucumber; assorted pastries and decadent chocolate confections; raisin scones accompanied by a fluffy, whipped butter and fresh strawberry preserves; and our choice of tea: Earl Grey.

While pleasant, it's not something we do often; the food is rich. Expect to pay a premium for the privilege, and the price in the gym later.

Afternoon High Tea is served daily from 14.00 to 19.00; the dress code is casual. You'll need to have your order in 30 minutes before closing time, so don't be late.

Once you've had High Tea at the Pen, you'll have participated in one of Hong Kong's best traditions.

You won't be disappointed.
