Big Bomb
When A WWII bomb weighing 227kg was unearthed at Nanking Street,
local residents were kicking it and hammering on it, trying to determine its origin.
When they realised what it was, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Bureau was called; the bomb was so unstable it had to be defused on the spot.
The operation took 10 hours; 4,000 people were evacuated. Had it gone off, it would have levelled an area of 200 square metres.
The bomb contained enough explosive to destroy a modern highrise building.
Stinky Tofu
Mabel and I were walking past a food stall in Wan Chai when our noses were assaulted by a noxious odor. It filled the air; we couldn't get away from it. It smelled like a sewer line had exploded.
I asked her what they were cooking and she told me it is called stinky tofu; and people were lining up to eat the stuff!
Think of it as the Chinese version of limburger cheese.
