No, Not Them!
It's funny how bad events can leave a mark on your psyche.
Being flooded was indeed harrowing (you feel helpless when all that water comes rushing in), but all things considered it wasn't near as horrible as it could have been; we could have lost a great deal more than we did.
Yet some inner chamber in my mind must have been harbouring anxiety, because with the approach of another tropical storm at night, and despite my diligent preparations to prevent a repeat incident, I had the most vivid dream of waking up and looking out the window to find the yard flooded far worse than the first time, which of course meant the interior of the house would be deluged as well.
I remember the sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach that we would have to clean up again and put in yet another claim with the insurance company. You can imagine my relief when I actually woke up and found everything was normal.
Because dealing with the insurance company is a far greater trauma than the disaster itself.
