A Different Heavy Bag Workout
Since being flooded during the last typhoon, preparation for major storms at our village house now includes setting up stop boards and sandbags wherever floodwaters might get in.
The prime entry point is the yard gate, which I've blocked to a height of about three feet. I can add to the height if need be. I've also prepared similar defences at the house doors, ensuring that even if water breaches the gate, the house itself is protected. It's the price we pay for living in a lush green valley; the beautiful scenery comes with a few risks.
And it's a workout, some of the sandbags weigh more than 80 pounds. I had planned to visit the gym to go 10 rounds with the heavy bag, but now I don't have to bother. Now the main thing is to watch the inbound cyclone and be ready to act if anything goes wrong.
There's simply no way in Hell I'm going to let the house be flooded a second time.
