What Profit?

About once a year I receive e-mail from some angry individual with disturbing personal issues, and those of you who visit regularly will know that my usual response is to pick the rants apart and make fun of them, whether the message came from a neo-Nazi or just some guy who hates white people.

But this time I want to change things up a little and pass along a wonderful bit of feedback from a nice fellow named Kim, from my old hometown of Edmonton:

I have been following BWG for years, and have been thoroughly entertained, and informed with your awesome pictures, and prose about your life in HK. You are such a terrific writer, and I feel that I've come to know you as a friend by your words and images. I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your hard work. Posting quality material so consistently for so many years - that's talent and a display of responsibility to your readers. I have many blogs bookmarked, and over the years they have come and gone. Yours is a constant in my online life, and it continues to enrich me. Thank you so much for that.

Boy, that's refreshing; the last review I read of my web site claimed that I'm a hack without insight running a for-profit web site that exists solely to make fun of the Chinese.

Sure, the reviewer was grossly incorrect on all counts, but that doesn't mean I don't have feelings.
