Wine consumption is on the rise in Hong Kong.

I know my own has increased a tad in recent times. The city has a decent selection of wines from all over the world, many of which are both affordable and tasty.

But I'm no wine expert; I've just been sampling products from different regions to get a better sense of the producers as well as grape varieties that appeal to my palate. So it was my good fortune to meet Simon Tam of the Independent Wine Centre, because Simon is an expert. In just a short discussion I learned quite a lot, so I can only imagine what a dedicated tasting seminar might teach someone.

Anyone who can see clearly through the self-aggrandisement of the wine industry is a good person to know.
