14K Friends

In Hong Kong, merely claiming to be a triad can get you arrested, so when police learned of a 14K triad Facebook page they took notice.

Yip Kai-foonClearly the triads wouldn't be stupid enough to blatantly recruit members, yet detectives are taking no chances. The page features a photo of infamous gangster Yip Kai-foon, and as many as 700 people have joined as friends (with some leaving now that the police are investigating).

Under Hong Kong law, anyone found "in possession of books, accounts, writings, lists of members, seals, banners or insignia of, or relating to, any unlawful society shall be presumed to be assisting in the management of such a society." A first offense can incur a fine of HK$100,000 (about US$12,820) and three years in jail, while a repeat offense can get you a HK$250,000 fine (about US$32,050) and seven years in the pokey.

The page is such an obvious joke; it can't be a powerful secret society if it's on Facebook.
