Report Extortion
You've got to love this anti-extortion poster created by the Hong Kong Police (hit the thumbnail for the large view).
It depicts two triad thugs running a classic Chinese New Year scam, demanding cash for an unwanted decorative kumquat tree, but instead of caving in and forking over a ridiculous sum, the store owner is calling the cops, much to the chagrin of the goons.
Naturally the poster doesn't show the owner being slapped around or having his shop trashed, a possible consequence of defiance, but everyone knows there's always a chance of that. These days an increasing number of business people are refusing the triads outright, an act unthinkable 50 years ago.
The poster is a reminder that instead of accepting intimidation, Hong Kongers have an option.
