A Crippling Blow

In a prominent article, the local rag trumpeted that 'police have crippled the main faction of the Sun Yee On triad society in Tsim Sha Tsui' via a city-wide raid of more than 40 locations that netted 34 alleged gang members.

It took a year of undercover work by a single officer to 'smash' [there's that word, again; ed.] the triad group.

Yet buried in the In Brief section, a blurb reported that 'anti-triad' police were investigating an incident in Tsim Sha Tsui during which two men sustained head injuries after being attacked by 10 men with weapons, a classic triad tactic. Either the Sun Yee On triad wasn't quite as crippled as the cops claim, or a different society is doing business as usual.

So many crooks, so little time.
