Elephant Economics
Normally I reserve this web site for Hong Kong-related events and tend not to comment on the goings-on elsewhere.
But a Dutch friend of mine who does business in Hong Kong and mainland China showed me a video he'd taken while in Thailand, which is so interesting I simply have to share it.
You may not be aware of it, but in Thailand elephants and man share a strong attachment. Elephants are generally revered, and anything non-exploitative that raises awareness for the protection of these gentle giants is worthwhile.
Such is the case with a baby elephant that has been taught to use money. Rather than simply being fed bananas by tourists, he takes a visitor's 20-Baht banknote over to a vendor's booth, buys the bananas, and then returns to say thank you with a kneeling bow.
Watch the video; I dare you not to grin.
