Fast, Furious and Foolish

In this episode of Cops: Hong Kong police use civilian vehicles as sandbags to catch the bad guys.

Too bad a bunch of people got hurt as a result. The moron who overstepped his authority stopped three taxis, a private car and a truck to prevent "more than 20 illegal road racers" from using a three-lane highway at high speeds at 2.00am. The tactic failed; three racers attempted to plow through the roadblock, creating an eight-car pileup while the civilians were still in their vehicles.

In cases like this the typical response is deflection, at which the police excel. They claim they were trying to prevent a "more serious traffic accident", and would "review the operation and determine if changes should be made to procedures".

As they should, because given this level of stupidity, the next time Hong Kong has a riot the cops will just grab folks off the sidewalk to use as human shields.
