Asinine Assertion

Hong Kong's advertisers must have innate inappropriateness in their genetic code, because once again they've overreached to the point of offensiveness to make a point.

But instead of using New York's burning Twin Towers for an anti-smoking ad, or Nazi symbols to sell clothing, this time they've elected to abuse Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech.

In a poorly conceived television ad, some twerp in an office hails his colleagues over the PA about his dream that everyone will begin saving electricity, claiming the effort will save the planet. That would have been fine, but then he states the notion is as important as Martin Luther King's goal, which immediately struck me as crass.

Equating turning off the lights with the fight against the ongoing degradation of an entire race was a terrible idea that should have been squashed the moment it was brought up.
