... Afternoon Alight
I love living in rural Hong Kong, but I don't love it when villagers set off giant illegal fireworks close enough to make the windows rattle.
When the first one exploded I wondered if an undiscovered leftover WWII mortar had gone off, but successive rockets proved otherwise. Now I don't mind firecrackers during Lunar New Year and other important festivals, but at a distance they're tolerable, and they don't create the pressure waves of large skyrockets.
I also question the wisdom of using fireworks in fields full of dry tinder; it's bad enough when farmers scorch their fields on purpose, but a misplaced ember could burn down the feng shui forest backing the village and I'd be sorry to lose it.
Or my house.
If fireworks can burn down a skyscraper in Beijing, they can certainly barbeque the village.
