Club Seven
Those who know me well know that I can't stand Lan Kwai Fong.
Pretentious doesn't begin to cover it; the oh-so-trendy little street crammed full of bars, pubs and restaurants with overpriced drinks and expensive food attracts an inordinate number of tools who stand around looking down their noses and passing judgement on those deemed unsuitably attired or insufficiently wealthy, which makes having a good time much more difficult for everyone else who is not a tool.
Therefore I was pleased to learn that said tools have their work cut out for them now that "Club Seven" has become so popular. When night descends, financially strapped young Hong Kongers stream to either of Lan Kwai Fong's cheapest watering holes, otherwise known as 7-11. The convenience store's prices are a little higher than the grocery outlets, but they're enormously cheaper than the area's bars. The result is large flocks of 20-somethings drinking in the streets.
That's a marked change in the dynamic, which means the tools are tasked with doling out additional sneers all night long, and that's tiring. Given enough time and pressure perhaps they'll relocate and Lan Kwai Fong will actually become a fun place to hang out.
Who knows, maybe the drink prices will drop too.
