The Gold for Incompetence
Trying to watch any Olympic event on Hong Kong television stations is agonising.
The English-language station's commentators are clearly out of their depth, but the Cantonese-language stations win the gold for incompetence.
Their commentators are grossly partisan toward the great motherland; play-by-play is endlessly punctuated by exclamations of glee any time the Chinese athlete (or team) scores a point, and moans and groans when they give one up. Athletes being interviewed are asked insipid questions and expected to respond to superficial or inane observations.
This is just a thought, but hear me out for a moment: dressing five local celebrities in identical yellow sports coats may not be quite enough to qualify them for the work at hand.
