Smoke Screen

A Singaporean study claims to have found a link between the Chinese ritual of burning incense and cancers of the respiratory tract.

The immediate Chicken Little reaction of a Hong Kong cancer specialist?

The lesson to learn is perhaps we might as well abandon this practice in Hong Kong.

No mention was made in the study of how many of the incense users were also smokers or genetically predisposed to cancer. And what of folks smart enough to open windows and turn on the fan when they burn three tiny joss sticks at home?

But knowing how the Hong Kong government thinks, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see warning signs go up in temples throughout the city.

Nothing like a convenient "danger" to divert attention from all the coal and diesel burning.
