Seeing Red

In Hong Kong it is estimated that about 80% of the population wears glasses.

You'd think a solid program would be in place to collect old eyewear and redistribute it to those in need, but you'd be wrong. Trying to find a place that will accept my old frames has been an exercise in futility. Several web searches turned up exactly nothing. I even contacted Orbis Hong Kong, only to learn they'd rather just have my money.

Frankly, that pisses me off. In Canada all I had to do was drop my local bank, pop the glasses into a Lions Club collection box and be done with it. When retrieved, they were sorted and matched to the prescription of someone less fortunate who couldn't afford glasses of any kind.

I'm saddened to contemplate the massive waste of old eyewear generated by this city: talk about not seeing past the end of one's nose.

No way will I add to it.

Whether or not you live in Hong Kong, or if you don't have a Lions Club in your area, just box up your frames and send by regular mail to:

What's a few dollars in postage when compared with helping another human being to see clearly?
