Indigenous Scavengers

When my mother-in-law moved back in with us she brought a small television set, a replacement for an older one left behind the first time she relocated.

No one in the family wanted the old set, but it was taking up space and I wanted to be rid of it. I held off because I didn't like the idea of just throwing away a working appliance, yet I also didn't feel like hauling all 30 pounds of it to the nearest Salvation Army collection point.

I need not have waited. On a hunch I lugged the set over to the village recycle bins, placed it gently on a nearby platform and then walked away.

I swear that within one minute, I looked over my shoulder and saw a villager diligently examining the TV; my guess is it's now in his house.

And that's how simple it is.
