Spree Killer

In other places, serial killers are most often slow and methodical, choosing their victims carefully and cooling off between murders.

Not so in Hong Kong. Three prostitutes have been killed in as many days, leading police to believe they have a wacko on their hands. The weird part is that he went after women with repetitive diminutives: Co Co, Kei Kei, and Sa Sa. Not only does this nutjob target sex workers, he selects victims with reduplicated nicknames.

But at this pace he sounds more like a spree killer: a serial killer in overdrive, creatures who usually don't stop until they're caught. The problem is the women have no way of protecting themselves under Hong Kong's legal system: they can't employ a security guard or group together for safety. The sole advice being handed out is that the women stop advertising their services online, which means they can't make any money.

Until police catch the sociopath, the women either take their chances or starve.

Update: a suspect has been arrested, a Pakistani man with a Hong Kong ID card whom criminologists believe robbed for money and then killed to prevent identification. He is described by a neighbour as "quiet and taciturn". In other words, a classic spree killer.
