Edison's Embarrassment

The so-called Edison Chen sex scandal has been raging since January, but I haven't weighed in because frankly, it's boring.

First off, you might not have heard of Edison Chen, nor any of the female Cantopop stars he compromised when he took photos during private encounters with each of them.

And even if you know who they are, why would you care about their sex lives? Moreover, why does anyone give a rip about what celebrities do in their own homes?

The simple fact is he was an idiot (more a rank narcissist, truth be told) for photographing himself with these women, and they were idiots for letting him. These days anything can end up on the Internet, so the best policy is not to create a raft of images or video if it would prove humiliating in public.

In research of this piece I viewed some of the photos, which were not only dull, they were repulsive. The media frenzy, gossip, fallout and, for the love of God, street protest against the police is misguided and stupid. If anything this embarrassment has revealed far less about the intimate behaviour of the stars than it has about the mindset of Hong Kongers.

Adults have sex; get over it.
