Call the Mythbusters!

In Hong Kong, even an unlucky event can have a lucky ending.

On the seventh day of Lunar New Year, otherwise known as "everybody's birthday" (because everyone turns one year older), a man overbalanced while collecting clothes from the drying rack outside his 10th-floor flat, and out the window he went; it happens more often than you'd think.

A few seconds later he landed, but not on the first-floor podium, which likely would have resulted in his death. Instead his life was saved by another clothes rack: the nylon ropes became a safety net, and he came away with minor injuries.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I'd use this method to escape a burning building, because how you land is as critical as having a rack to land on.

Sound like a job for the Mythbusters.
