Tai Yuen Street Saved
People familiar with the Tai Yuen Street bazaar in Wan Chai will be happy to know that not only has the government agreed not to tear down the market, all 150 stalls will be renovated following Lunar New Year.
Each owner will spend about HK$6,000 on refurbishment, including repainting the stall the traditional deep green. Keeping the market clean and vibrant helps retain a sense of old Hong Kong in a district that is seeing rapid redevelopment.
Getting there is easy: head to Exit A3 of the Wan Chai MTR station, cross Johnston Road and turn right.
Tai Yuen Street is the first left and is impossible to miss.
