Trucker Hats

The ridiculous trucker-hat trend is still going strong in Hong Kong, with local fashion victims putting their own spin on it.

I'd hoped the Von Dutch ugliness would die a fast death three years ago, but alas, no. While fewer are wearing them sideways, I've noticed that many girls (and lately more guys) are perching the trucker hat on the crown of their heads, with their long hair spilling down from beneath.

Wearing it like that may prevent "hat-head" but it looks stupid; you can see the outline of their dome through the mesh, but having the hat ride high still makes them look cone-headed.

And then there's the obvious culture clash: trucker hats don't look right on Chinese kids. You may disagree, but imagine a 350-pound North American trucker named Bubba wearing a conical Chinese bamboo farming hat and you'll see what I mean. The only folks who look right in trucker hats are actual truckers.

Let's hope they don't start perching them as well.
