If you're the type of expatriate or tourist interested in the seamier side of Hong Kong, you won't find any tips on this site about which massage parlour to visit or how the club scene works, because the truth is I don't know.

Nor do I care; it's just not my thing.

However, I can at least warn hedonists of a recent trend whereby men have woken up in hotel rooms missing cash, credit cards and jewellery. It's called being roofied and robbed. So-called "date-rape" drugs are most helpful to organised thieves.

And if that's not exciting enough, the triads are always willing to squeeze you for money: all they need is their online escort sites, a room, and hidden surveillance cameras. A post-naughtiness phone call is all it takes to bleed you dry.

So if you plan to mess around, remember: you pays your money, you takes your chances.
