Nine

It's October 1, National Day for the People's Republic of China.

But who cares, because it's also BWG's 9th anniversary; close to 15 million served!

In Chinese numerology, gau (), the number nine, is a quasi-homonym of sauh (), which means longevity.

At the end of birthday banquets dessert often arrives in the form of sauh touh baau (壽桃包), or longevity peach buns: steamed buns filled with red bean paste and shaped to resemble a peach, another symbol of longevity. Sometimes the buns are filled with lotus seed paste or sesame paste, but the fundamental meaning doesn't change.

Since nine denotes long life, the next 12 months should be auspicious for this web site and for myself; October 1, 1998 was my first day of residence in the Big Lychee.

When I think about the short life span of most web sites, I'm pleased I've been able to continue growing BWG to share life in Hong Kong with you, gentle reader.

Therefore I can think of no better way to wrap up than to trot out that horrid cliché: me love you long time!
