Flying vs. Driving
After 24 hours of travel, including flight time and transfers, we made it back safely from the Big Island of Hawai'i.
We're not afraid to fly, so having to take three different planes wasn't a problem (though I have to say I'm not enamoured with Philippine Airlines, but that's another story).
The sole scary segment of the trip was the taxi ride home from the airport. The driver not only sped, he tailgated every bus, truck and car by no more than a few meters, made radical lane changes without shoulder-checking, and was unable to hold the vehicle steady in whichever lane he was in.
When you're on the ragged edge from a lack of sleep, such a road trip is nerve-wracking. It reminded me that travelling by plane is infinitely safer (even when the pilot bounces the A340 off the runway when landing in Honolulu, but that's also another story) than being in a car, especially one driven by a true maniac.
Welcome back to Hong Kong.
