What, No Water Pipes?
When I first heard the story of 18 men whaling on two men in a North Point restaurant, my first thought was how much it sounded like a scene from a triad movie.
The injured pair were former activist group leader Or Wah and barrister Wong Hin-lee. They, and several friends, were having dinner at a Chinese restaurant in North Point ... when the assault occurred ...
They found eight Putonghua-speaking men sitting next to them had lit up their cigarettes and were smoking. When Mr Or and his friends tried to stop them, the eight men became angry and swore at them.
The suspected smokers left the restaurant after Mr Or's friends called up the Tobacco Control Office inspectors to intervene. But they returned shortly afterwards, this time accompanied by 10 more men ...
The group picked up chairs and glass cups and hit Mr Or and Mr Wong for about one minute ...
Mr Or suffered injuries to his right eye and later needed 16 stitches. Mr Wong suffered head injuries and needed four stitches.
See what I mean?
[update]: The paper got the numbers wrong. The total number of assailants was 10, not 18.
