Expensive Comfort

In a bid to reduce the amount of our electric bill, we've decided to see how long we can go without using the air conditioners at home.

But using a fan instead means less comfort; the temperature spiked at 34C the other day and the wimpy fan couldn't cut it. At night it's adequate as evening temperatures hover at about 25C, though first we have to run the bedroom's aircon for a short while to strip the day's heat from the air. Giving the fan a head start allows it to recycle the cooled air long enough for us to fall asleep.

But I expect that when the heat and humidity of summer lands on us with both feet, we'll be forced to run the aircon longer and more often, if not all the time. Our electricity payment will get ugly, but we'll be able to work and sleep without misery.

Only six more months until winter ...
