Dangerous Crocs?

Crocs (the sandals, not the reptile) and escalators don't mix.

So far six Hong Kongers, kids included, have seen their rubbery, flexible Crocs get sucked into the gap between the escalator's moving steps and the sidewall, resulting in not just mangled footwear, but injuries.

The phenomenon isn't confined to Hong Kong; it's happening all over the world.

It's not that Crocs or escalators are inherently dangerous, it's that kids like to play on the escalator, which includes rubbing their feet against the edges. Crocs or not, if you fool about on an escalator often enough, bad things will happen.

Regardless, this is Hong Kong: realm of the over-zealous bureaucrat; expect to see warning signs targeting Crocs wearers at all escalators across the territory within a month.
