London in Hong Kong
Hong Kong's ubiquitous taxis may get a new look by the end of 2008.
A new old look, that is.
The government wants to replace the fleet of 18,138 Toyota Crown taxis with "London black cabs" manufactured by Geely Holdings Group, China's biggest privately owned auto maker.
According to the Transport Department, of the 18,138 taxis operating in Hong Kong, 15,250 are painted red for urban service, 2,838 are green for the New Territories, and 50 are blue for Lantau Island. Imagine a London cab painted in Hong Kong's famous colours; how cool would that be?
This is a grand idea and I hope it comes to fruition.
