Eight Kids Per Couple, Easy!
It's official: Hong Kong's population is 6.9 million and holding.
The government had expected it to be 7.2 million in 2006. So what's the problem? Not enough babies. The birth rate of 0.9 per woman of child-bearing age is far below the 2.1 needed to maintain population levels.
That figure isn't helped by the imbalance in the ratio of women to men (1000:911) and that more women are choosing to pursue their careers rather than get married.
It could be worse: were everyone in Hong Kong raised Catholic the population would be enormous.
