Wedding Card Street
The impending demolition of Lee Tung Street (利東街), or Wedding Card Street (喜帖街) as Hong Kongers call it, led me to produce a brief photo essay illustrating its demise.
Another piece of Hong Kong's cultural heritage will soon disappear under the wrecking ball.
Wedding Card Street was the center of the local printing industry for decades, with print shops specialising in wedding cards, lai see envelopes, Chinese calendars and more. Hundreds of thousands of Hong Kongers ordered their wedding invitations there.
Soon it will be rubble.
Once again local colour gives way to soulless cosmetic shops and chain stores one can find in, oh, every mall in the territory.
It's criminal.
So take a stroll down Wedding Card Street, while you still can.
