Human Roach Motel
Hong Kongers are famous for trying to shave seconds off whatever they're doing, even if it's unimportant.
Cutting corners at escalators. Being pushy at lifts. Sprinting across MTR platforms. Barging on and off trains. Tag-teaming at ATMs. The list goes on.
But every now and then, such an attempt backfires.
Three girls learned that lesson the hard way after they got trapped in a revolving door in the Citic Tower; one of them had her foot jammed by the door when all three squeezed into the same compartment.
Firefighters tried the old dishwashing-liquid-lube release maneuver but that failed, and finally had to smash the glass to free the girls.
It took more than 20 minutes to get them out, and the girl whose foot was wedged had to go the hospital. That's a lousy trade for what would have been but a few seconds had each waited for a separate compartment.
No wonder they were ashamed: no one wants to admit they were outwitted by a door.
