Red Lips Bar

How many tourists have passed by this sign in Tsim Sha Tsui and not given it a second thought?

View large image The Red Lips Bar isn't high on most people's "must visit" list, but the joint has history.

Depending on whom you believe, Red Lips Bar:

· is the oldest bar in Kowloon;

· was started by an American serviceman after the Korean War to give retired ladies of the evening jobs as hostesses;

· was a taxi-dance bar prior to the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong during World War II.

Everyone agrees that Red Lips Bar has some of the oldest servers around. I just hope they're not dressed like Hong Kong's ubiquitous beer girls.

I don't plan to run down there anytime soon, but if you've had a drink there, I'd like to hear about it.
