Mistress-Prevention Program

Some Hong Kongers use bizarre methods to display their unhappiness during domestic disputes.

Some jump out the window. Some throw acid in their partner's face.

And some resort to illegal confinement, thus police were forced to arrest a Mong Kok woman and her daughter for beating up the woman's husband and then tying him to a chair to prevent him from heading across the border to visit his mainland mistress.

The couple lived separately but police couldn't determine if they were divorced, a scenario that's more common than one would think for people in that age group. Divorce would mean a loss of face, so the answer is to live apart. Meanwhile, the woman and her eight children live on welfare.

Having that many kids is another way of life that has gone by the wayside, as most people no longer farm and small flat sizes makes having huge families problematic.

What's more curious is that the man could even afford to have a second wife; you can't be much of a sugar daddy without the sugar. Then again, he has eight kids: perhaps his mistress likes him for more than just money.

He should count himself lucky he only got beat down, because his wife could have decided instead to relieve him of his baby-maker.
