Big Little Monster

Yet another wee beastie has arrived in our village house courtyard, though this time I wasn't too keen on it making its appearance.

View large image Let's get this straight: a six-inch-long praying mantis is welcome; a big freaking spider is not.

Those of you who recall my run-in with an orb-weaver while hiking know I'm not partial to giant arachnids.

I caught this one scuttling near the doorway; it was a good three inches in diameter and the largest spider I've yet seen in this area. The last thing I wanted was for it to get into the house. If I ever woke up with that sitting on my chest I'd lose. my. mind.

In case you're wondering, those white crystals on its body are from the bug spray.

My brother will chastise me for that, but no way did I want that little monster hanging around.
