Non-Escape Unpunished!
Everyone hates mosquitoes.
But village life means never having a house that's always free of the bloodsuckers. Good habits, such as using the small door instead of the sliding door, keep the little buggers out most of the time.
When one does get in the house, we're armed and ready.
We used to chase mozzies about with a fly swatter or newspaper, but they had a knack for getting away. Smearing them into the paint wasn't all that attractive a prospect either.
One benefit of being next door to mainland China is the ready availability of cheap but useful consumer products, such as the electric mosquito swatter. This handy, rechargeable tennis racquet lookalike is indispensable for ridding the house of flying insects.
I love the Chinese manufacturer's description:
... it is made of special tri-layers of net. So mosquitoes and flies are easy fly into but hard fly out. NON-ESCAPE UNPUNISHED!
The mesh can reach a momentary output of up to 2300 volts.
When mosquitoes or flies touch the charged surfaces, instant death ensues. Killing pests was never so easy or so much fun.
Sometimes mosquitoes get caught in the mesh, in which case they have to be brushed out. Continuing to fry them produces a stink like burnt hair.
And sometimes, when the timing is right, they explode on contact.
Satisfying!
