Scissors in the Skull

My first trip to Hong Kong was in 1997.

The evening I arrived, my wife took me to her aunt's high-rise flat, where we would stay for three weeks.

As we approached the building, Mabel pulled me under the cement canopy that skirted the building. "Watch out for TVs," she said, and she wasn't joking; the day before someone had thrown a set out the window.

Nothing has changed.

If you had to choose between scissors and a fridge, well ...
