Hit Miss

Because handguns are scarce in Hong Kong, triad disputes are often solved with armed gang members going after one another with lengths of water pipe, meat cleavers, machetes or knives.

Most of the time no one is killed, but plenty of heads get cracked and a trip to the hospital is routine.

You can imagine the surprise that one "alleged" triad boss felt when a hit man pulled out a gun and tried to whack him.

Ten people have been arrested and a pistol and ammunition seized after an apparent failed murder attempt on an alleged triad leader watching a World Cup match.

Police were unsure why the American-made 9mm Smith and Wesson pistol did not fire.

It's called a safety for a reason.

The alleged Sun Yee On gang leader ... and friends were watching the game in the store ... when a man carrying a pistol walked in, leaving another outside as a lookout.

"The gunman reportedly pointed a pistol at the chest of the triad leader ... he tried to pull the trigger but no shot was fired ..."

... the man put up a struggle with the gunman and his friend scuffled with the lookout.

The pair fled after a brief tussle.

... the alleged gang leader went home to sleep and did not report the incident until 3pm.

Because almost being murdered is exhausting. That, and he had a game to finish watching.

"Investigations revealed the alleged triad leader was active ... and he recently had a dispute with a rival gang that tried to extend their influence ..." ...

My guess is he's been influenced not to watch World Cup matches in places with lax security.
