My mother-in-law strained her legs, so she's been visiting a Chinese doctor for traditional medicine to relieve the pain.
One of the home treatments involved boiling a mixture of herbs, including mint leaves, for five minutes, followed by draining the fluid into a basin and letting it cool to a safe temperature so she could soak her feet.
The leavings were discarded.
The next day I noticed the kitchen smelled exactly of hashish (don't ask how I know what hash smells like; chalk it up to youthful indiscretion). I don't know what's in the herbal mixture, but it's safe to say hashish isn't one of the ingredients.
How the leavings mimic that particular odor is a bio-chemical mystery.
