Vetting Vanity
The Transport Department is putting together a "pool of experts proficient in English and different cultures" to scrutinise vanity plates to ensure none slip through with meanings that are "indecent, obscene, in bad taste or offensive".
Because every Hong Konger knows all the worst Nigerian curse words, and we can't allow that.
Each car plate proposal should contain no more than eight letters or numerals while I, O and Q must not be used. Four identical letters or numerals are also not allowed.
Proposals should also not be designed in a way that people could mistake as representing any government or public bodies. Those carrying connotation of triads will also be rejected.
No letter "O"?
