Schoolbooks & Vicious Looks

Do Hong Kong triads want the police to kick their asses?

Because they're sure inviting it.

Gangsters brazenly chased three schoolboys into their school then menaced teaching staff when they failed to catch the boys ...

The three alleged triad members stripped off their shirts and displayed their tattoos with "vicious" looks at the teachers in what a veteran police officer said was the first such case he had heard of in 10 years on the force.

Challenging cops is one thing, but charging into a school is bound to tick off Hong Kong's Finest.

"They have gone too far. They disregarded the law and discipline in Hong Kong" ...

That's code for: we're going to bust some heads.

The officer was speaking after police arrested 15 suspected triad members, including the trio, in an anti-triad crackdown ...

One of the three is an alleged gang leader. Those arrested include seven schoolboys ... alleged to have been recruiting schoolmates to join triad societies.

[ ... ]

"Students were not required to attend any official ceremony to become members of the triad society. But they were ordered to pay $3.60 in lai see to become followers ..."

"Those who refused to join were allowed to leave but were threatened with a beating."

Gone are the days when the triads could operate with impunity. Not holding traditional ceremonies is a direct result of being forced by the police to lay low.

Then again, threatening teachers doesn't count as keeping a low profile.
