Bear Your Own Consequences
Hong Kong's unscrupulous debt collection agencies have no shame; they've resorted to using schoolboys to write threats in red paint on walls and doors.
The kids earn between $100 to $200 apiece and are taught to avoid detection by wearing their school uniforms and shielding their faces from security cameras:
"Debt and repayment" and "bear your own consequences" are common slogans daubed outside the units of debtors. Using a familiar tactic of illicit debt collectors, the teenagers also deface neighbours' doors and walls to pressure debtors to pay up.
Bear your own consequences?
That's an interesting choice of words, considering the penalty for criminal damage is up to 14 years in the slam.
The Corrections Department ought to paint that slogan inside the cells while the debt collectors [ahem] pay their debt to society.
