Disneyland Dissected

Summing up Hong Kong Disneyland is simple: if you've never been to a Disneyland theme park, it's a fun place to spend the day; if you've visited any of the other parks, it may disappoint you.

View large image Hong Kong Disneyland is lacking for more adult attractions, a few of which will be built in the years to come, such as Pirates of the Caribbean in 2010. With only 22 entertainment items, the park clocks in at about half of the draws available at the parks in Tokyo, Paris and Florida.

I can't speak for those venues, but I've been to the original park in Anaheim numerous times (with 65 attractions) and therefore I'm spoiled rotten.

While Space Mountain was its usual blast, the rest of the park is tame. However, those with small children will get their money's worth; most of the attractions are designed to create Disney's special brand of magic. The evening fireworks were spectacular enough to please even jaded Hong Kongers used to the massive displays over Victoria Harbour.

As for the problems which plagued the opening, none were evident. People behaved well (other than the odd pushy jerk) and I didn't see any parents helping their kids pee in the flower beds.

Overall I had a good time, but I left wanting more; I'm contemplating a trip to Tokyo Disneyland to get a fuller experience.

Hong Kong Disneyland would have left a better impression had it had a few more of its classic attractions in place.
