The Tragically Hip?

The so-called Wonders of Women survey reveals that Hong Kong women, when compared with women in mainland China, Taipei, Manila, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, are the trendiest in Asia:

· Hong Kong women showed the highest market penetration of digital cameras (72 per cent), mp3 players (65 per cent), PDAs (17 per cent) and 3G mobile phones (8 per cent).

· Almost 75 per cent ... said they thought the face was more important [than the body], with 20 per cent ... saying they would resort to cosmetic surgery.

· Almost one in two women ... thinks premarital sex is okay ...

· Seventeen per cent see extramarital affairs as acceptable ...

· Only 37 per cent ... believe marriage will last forever.

Let me get this straight: Hong Kong women are prodigious consumers, tech-savvy, and vain; while almost two-thirds think marriage is doomed to failure and a fair number think fidelity is a joke?

How that makes them hip is uncertain, but if that's true, they're going to need all those tech toys to keep track of their boyfriends.
