The Bedrooms of Hong Kong

High Court Judge Michael Hartmann has made a landmark ruling which has struck down laws against gay sex as unconstitutional and discriminatory.

The judge said that the laws "discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation" and ruled that they are inconsistent with Basic Law and the Bill of Rights.

But it's not over yet: expect a flurry of condemnation of the decision from religious groups, among others.

Regardless, people who profess to believe in freedoms need only to focus on one critical contention, best summed up by former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Eliot Trudeau: "The State has no business in the bedrooms of the nation."
