Thirty Years of Tam

Hong Kong's TVB has reached a new low in broadcasting.

View large image The only thing worse than a musical medley is one sung in English by Alan Tam Wing-lun (谭咏麟) for the program Alan Tam's 30 Years Entertaining Hong Kong.

I about hurled when he broke into the opening lines of Jumping Jack Flash. I had to run from the room with my hands over my ears, yelling, "La la la la, I can't hear you!"

Don't get me wrong: as Hong Kong celebrities go, he has a reputation as a nice guy, but he's just not that strong a singer.

As for medleys, they're the work of Satan, but I'd forgive Tam for this transgression if he stuck to singing in Cantonese.
