Fragrant Incense
While standing on the number four platform of the KCR station at Tai Wai (大圍), one can smell the fragrant incense from Che Kung Temple (車公廟) when the wind is right.
At the temple, the smoke is overpowering when many joss sticks are burning, but from a distance, the scent is pleasing.
During my first visit to Hong Kong, I stayed with my wife's Aunt and Uncle in Tai Wai. Auntie would light three thin joss sticks every morning for her ancestor shrine.
To this day I associate the fragrance with Hong Kong; wherever I travel, it smells like home.
