Ma On Shan Rail

The Ma On Shan extension of the Kowloon Canton Railway is up and running.

View large image The line, most of which is viaduct, is 11.4 km in length and runs between the station at Tai Wai and the new terminus at Wu Kai Sha. The journey takes 16 minutes and will shave large chunks off commute time for those heading to the lower Kowloon peninsula or the Hong Kong side.

As with all new rail lines, a few kinks will pop up, but once they're under control and people get used to using the link, it should attract enough users to make it worthwhile. I'll use the line not only for convenience, but because it will cut traffic-generated air pollution which increased when the new town was connected to major road networks.

MOS Rail is a welcome cog in the wheel of Hong Kong's excellent transportation system.
